If you are interested in learning about plant breeding and seed collection, consider joining our workshop series, Growing Plants from Start to Seed . This series provides an opportunity to collaborate with breeding experts from the MASA Seed Foundation throughout the growing season, helping you successfully cultivate your first crop of organic heirloom seeds.
The Growing Plants from Start to Seed Workshop Series is open to gardeners and farmers of all skill levels. You will learn more about the series at the upcoming Plant Swap and Giveaway event. If you decide to join us, you will leave the Plant Swap with the starts to grow your seed crop.
PART 1 - Plant Swap & Giveaway, June 14th
Growing Plants from Start to Seed with MASA Seed Foundation starts on Friday, June 14th at our Plant Swap and Giveaway ! Are you interested in learning about plant breeding and seed collection. Join us at this free event to learn more about the Growing Plants from Start to Seed Workshop Series!
Bring your healthy house plants, extra garden starts, cuttings, seeds, and even small gardening tools to exchange with fellow green thumbs. As the summer season begins, it's the perfect time to share veggie, herb, and flower starts for sowing in your garden. Experts from MASA Seed Foundation will be attending to share their expertise and give away extra plant starts from their nursery. We will explain more about our Growing Plants from Start to Seed workshop series. If you decide to participate in the series, you will be given starts to begin your breeding project!
The Plant Swap and Giveaway has a suggested donation of $15. Everyone is welcome; please pay what you can afford. All donations will go to MASA Seed Foundation.
PART 2- Navigating the Challenges of the Growing Season, July 19th
On July 19th from 4 - 6 pm, MASA Seed Foundation's horticulturists and breeding experts will provide insights and answer your questions about plant care. Gain invaluable tips on maintaining plant health through flowering, fruiting, and harvesting phases. Share your progress, celebrate your successes, ask questions, and get advice to ensure your plants thrive and your seeds remain viable for harvest.
PART 3 - Seed Harvesting and Storage Techniques, October 11th
On October 11th, from 4-6 pm, MASA Seed Foundation's team of experts will share essential techniques for harvesting and storing organic, heirloom seeds. You'll leave equipped to successfully harvest and store your seeds, and be well on your way to creating a personal seed bank with varieties adaptable to climate shifts and Front Range soils.
About your Host: MASA Seed Foundation
MASA Seed Foundation focuses directly on growing and adapting Farm and Garden Seeds for local and national distribution. MASA's mission entails securing a Front Range Seed Bank of tried and true, rigorously selected heirloom and traditional food plant varieties that are adaptable to climate shifts and front range soils.
Securing seeds is foundational work for a deeper sense of regional food sovereignty. Supporting the depth of research entailed in raising seeds will help support MASA's Farm to Food Bank initiative to feed as many people as possible from our 20 acres of seeds and 50 tons of produce from their seed production fields.
