About this Event
Join us for a hands-on experience with a foraging lesson too!
Learn how to cultivate your own wine cap mushrooms right at home in your garden, one of the easiest mushrooms to grow! Our extension agents will guide you through the process, from setting up the grow area to harvesting your delicious mushrooms. You'll take home some inoculated substrate to grow your own.
Then we will discuss and learn how to identify a few local wild mushrooms that are edible and easy to pick out.*
Don't miss this opportunity to grow very easy mushrooms and learn more about the fungus among us! The event will be held at the Bullitt County Cooperative Extension Office.
*Foraging for fungi can be a great way to enjoy the natural world around us. However, when foraging for fungi it is best to exercise extreme caution in your ID and harvesting of wild fungi. Some fungi are extremely toxic and may result in illness, serious injury or even death. State and federal lands may also have regulations in place or require permits to forage for mushrooms. Be sure to check all regulations and ensure that you are not trespassing on private land before setting out to forage for fungi. And of course, only harvest what you know you will use; leave plenty for the wildlife and other foragers. The University of Kentucky does not recommend eating wild mushrooms and is not responsible for any issues resulting from consuming wild mushrooms.
