Join us as we explore the Bay County Riverwalk Trail System! Boardwalks "over the river" dirt/sand trails "through the woods" then on paved trails "to antique houses we go"! This moderate No-Drop ride is comprised of 2 sections = 24 miles for those that go the entire distance. Section 1 - We will head north along a paved trail to Topico Marsh Nature Preserve. When we get to the marsh we'll ride the loop through the beautiful forest and check out the Look-Out Towers over the marsh. The loop is packed dirt/sand so it is best to have your mountain bike or a bike with tread. (road bikes NOT recommended). On the way back we'll stop at Mussell Beach Drive In and get some ice cream! This section will be 14-16 miles at a 10-12 mph pace.
For those who want an extended ride:
Section 2 - Once we return to DeFoe Park in Bay City. You are welcome to leave. If there is anyone who isn't ready to put the bike away yet we'll ride the 10 mile loop around the city on a paved trail. along the river, through a wooded area, and a quaint historical neighborhood. This trail is mostly flat except for the bridges going over the Saginaw River. Riding pace 12-14 MPH
Required Gear:
-Bike in proper working condition
-HELMET no exceptions
• Rear red light, front white light
Recommended Gear:
• Flat Kit (spare tube, pump or CO2 inflator and tire lever or multi-tool with appropriate tools for your bike)
• Water, snack
CycleFit in Fenton can tune-up your bike & has the supplies you need!
Ride Etiquette:
• Show up prepared and on time. Out of respect for others we will not delay the ride start for someone who is late.
• We share the trail with walkers and bikers so please call out traffic: "Walker Up" and/or "Biker up." When you hear this called out it is your responsibility to move to the right side of the trail and ride single file. We pass the slower traffic on the left and it is considerate to either ring your bell or say "On your left" to the walker or biker you are passing.
