GROUP LISTENING // ON SALE THIS WEEKEagle-eared listeners to Cerys Matthews' 6 Music show yesterday will have heard the news that Group Listening are coming to Carmarthen. They’ll be making their CWRW debut in November and tickets go on sale this Wednesday 25th September at 10am.
Paul Jones and Stephen Black are together known as the woodwind and key-wielding, sculptural-papier-mâché-hat-wearing Group Listening. Following renegade reinterpretation records Clarinet & Piano: Selected Works Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, which pulled apart, pondered, and re-shaped cult ambient classics by the likes of Robert Wyatt, Arthur Russell and Beverly Glenn-Copeland, Walks - a shining modernist monolith buried deep in the woods - is their first volume of completely original compositions. Released in May 2024 on PRAH Recordings, Walks was followed by UK touring, festival appearances and mainland European touring.
“Some of the places are real, while others are invented. Many of them are from actual walks that Steve and I took - mostly when on the road while touring, between shows, exploring” says Paul Jones of Group Listening on the new record.
“Inspired…brimming with life” - Aquarium Drunkard
“Supremely serene” - Uncut
“Absolutely beautiful” - Tom Ravenscroft, BBC Radio 6 Music
