More About Give a Beat
We envision a world where those most affected adversely by incarceration are not only shown compassion and dignity, but empowered to forge talents and creative careers. Give a Beat addresses the continuum of incarceration by using music as a catalyst for change. Through our Youth Music Production and DJ Program, Pr*son Electronic Music Program, “On a New Track” Reentry Mentoring Program, and Give a Beat Records, we engage the music industry to help widen pathways for people to thrive, reduce recidivism, encourage empathy, and unite to contribute to the larger transformation of the criminal justice system.
Mass Incarceration
- The U.S. occupies 5% of the world's population, yet holds 25% of the world’s incarcerated population.
- On any given day in the United States, more than 40% of youth lack access to mentorship and mental health resources.
- Approximately 56% of individuals released from state prisons experienced mental health problems.
- Currently, 67% of individuals are rearrested within three years of their release.
- Music is the best studied form of art therapy, and helps to lower anxiety, depression, trauma, psychosis and stress.
Your Donation Makes a Difference
Your support directly fuels the programs that use music to transform lives. Every donation helps us provide mentorship, creative opportunities, and healing for individuals impacted by the criminal justice system. Whether it's giving young people the tools to express themselves through music, offering fair chances to those reentering society, or reducing recidivism through our programs, your generosity helps build brighter futures. Together, we can break cycles, inspire change, and create a more just and compassionate world—one beat at a time.
