This event features the planting of mums, asters, and pansies in a garden next to the Tomb of the Forgotten. Additionally, there will be the planting of spring flowering bulbs in the Roman
Catholic Garden "Coemeterium Sancta Trinitas".
Autumn is a wonderful time for gardening and this event will
offer tutorials on how to carry your garden through till spring.
The Grieving Gardeners Program is designed to use the healing effects found within gardening and nature as a means of coping with grief. Gardening can help cultivate a sense of positive thinking that can be particularly beneficial to those in mourning.
As a participant you will have an opportunity to interact with fellow gardeners while planting a bit of beauty in homage of departed loved ones. The program also establishes positive
community engagement where your efforts help to maintain a beautiful park setting within the hallowed grounds of a local cemetery.
Grieving Gardener events are open to everyone regardless of gardening skill or whether you have a loved one buried at the park. This is a wonderful opportunity to participate in ecological engagement in your community, to volunteer, increase your knowledge of horticulture, make some new friends, and create a lasting impact towards the gardens at Historyland Memorial Park & Arboretum. All plants and gardening equipment are on site,
however if you wish to use your own gardening tools you are welcome to.
