Grief in Motion: A Somatic Workshop for Moving Through Hidden Loss
In a society that often stigmatizes the expression of grief, many individuals carry hidden losses that weigh heavily on their hearts and bodies. The holiday season can intensify these feelings, making family dynamics and emotional challenges even more complex. Join "Grief in Motion," a somatic workshop designed to help you explore and release the emotions associated with loss that may be lingering beneath the surface.
This interactive session will provide a safe and nurturing space to:
- Identify Hidden Loss: Discover the various forms of loss that impact you, from the death of loved ones to the loss of dreams, relationships, or even aspects of yourself. Understanding these hidden losses can be the first step toward healing.
- Challenge Stigmas: Engage in safe and confidential sharing about the societal pressures that discourage vulnerability and emotional expression. This fosters a sense of community and understanding, reminding you that you're not alone in your grief.
- Understand Health Effects: Learn about the physical and mental health implications of suppressing emotions. Research shows that unexpressed grief can lead to stress, anxiety, depression, chronic health conditions, autoimmune diseases, and even cancer. By addressing these emotions, you can enhance your overall well-being.
- Explore the Nervous System: Gain insights into what happens in the nervous system during grief. Understand how grief can trigger the fight-or-flight response, leading to feelings of overwhelm, dissociation, or numbness. Discussion will cover how somatic practices can help regulate the nervous system and promote healing.
- Gain Tools for Complex Relationships: Learn strategies for navigating complex or even toxic relationships during the holidays, including techniques for reinforcing personal boundaries essential for self-preservation.
- Embodied Movement: Utilize somatic practices to help release stuck emotions and reconnect with your body. Through guided movement, breathwork, and mindfulness, you’ll learn to honor your grief and facilitate healing.
- Transform Numbing into Awareness: Explore the ways you may numb your feelings and develop tools to cultivate awareness and presence, allowing for a more authentic experience of grief.
Whether navigating personal grief or seeking to support others, this workshop offers valuable insights and practices to help you move through loss with compassion and resilience.
