Have you ever experienced grief so deep that you knew it would forever change you? People often misunderstand grief, even as they are walking through it. Many people wrongly assume that the objective during grief is to eventually “get over it.” But what if we have that objective wrong? What if instead of telling you to get over it, God wants to walk with you through it? What if He desires to perform a work of grace in your life that brings comfort, Christlikeness, healing, and greater intimacy with Him?Pastor Bill Prater shares from his own experience of losing his adult son in an accident and how God’s grace is sufficient—enough—to lead you through grief and loss.
Bill Prater was saved as a “bus kid” at Fellowship Baptist Church in Liberal, Kansas in 1976. He later attended Bible college where he met his wife, Katie. The Praters were married and joined the full-time ministry staff of Fellowship Baptist Church in 1981. Bro. Prater served the church in various capacities including Minister of Music, Youth Pastor, and Associate Pastor before assuming the Pastorate in May of 2000. In August of 2020, he led a smooth pastoral transition with his son, Tyler, and Pastor Prater stepped into his new role as Staff Evangelist. As Staff Evangelist, he and Katie minister in over 40 churches a year, mentoring pastors and pastors’ wives, preaching in revivals, missions conferences, marriage retreats, and in various other capacities.
In addition to his ministry as an evangelist, Bro. Prater also serves the community as a commissioned patrol officer and chaplain for the Liberal Police Department. He also serves as a board member and facilitator for the Leadership Enrichment and Development group.
The Praters have two married sons, T. J. (deceased) and Tyler, one daughter, Tiffany, and seven grandchildren, Malorie, Kevin, Ellie, Huck, Callie, Leroy, and Turner.
