In-Person & Livestream (one-night only)Town Hall’s Artist-in-Residence, cellist Gretchen Yanover, will perform new works as well as works-in-progress that have evolved during her residency. The program will include music for string trio in addition to electric cello, with Gretchen’s NW Sinfonietta colleagues and bandmates Anna Doak (bass) and Brandon Vance (violin) joining onstage. The evening will also include the poetry of Reagan Jackson and performances by Nia-Amina Minor and dance duo, The Willows.

Gretchen Yanover is a Seattle cellist who performs as a soloist on electric cello and looping pedal — a tool that changed her musical life and inspired her to improvise and compose — in addition to her acoustic cello performance and recording work. Yanover has performed for Earshot Jazz Festival and TEDx Seattle, has had compositions commissioned by Seattle Pacific University and University of Oregon, and has created music for and performed with LeVar Burton for LeVar Burton Reads live. She is a member of Northwest Sinfonietta orchestra and serves on their DEI task force. In addition to being the Town Hall Seattle 2021 Fall Artist-in-Residence, Yanover was the recipient of a Shunpike Artist residency. She has four solo albums to date.
Anna Doak is a double bassist and composer. She has been a member of the Northwest Sinfonietta, the Northwest region’s premier chamber orchestra, since 1999. She also serves as principal bassist and teaching artist for the Seattle Collaborative Orchestra and the Thalia Symphony. Anna is the founder of the band, Different Drummer.
Brandon Vance is an internationally-acclaimed Scottish violinist, fiddler, and composer. He has performed with Seattle-based Pacific Music Works, Early Music Vancouver, Northwest Sinfonietta, and a number of other local artists. He has performed and taught internationally, and is the recipient of Scotland’s 2017 Royal National Mòd “Sutherland Cup” in Scottish Fiddle, as well as being the youngest to win the U.S. National Open Scottish Fiddling Championship in both 1999 and 2001.
Nia-Amina Minor is is a movement artist and dance educator based in Seattle. Through performance and teaching, Nia-Amina converses with Black realities and investigates the intersections of movement, memory, and rhythm. She is a co-founder and former curator for Los Angeles-based collective, No)one Art House. Nia-Amina is in her 5th season with Spectrum Dance Theater and holds the position of Company Dancer as well as Community Engagement Artist Liaison.
