Following the release of O’Leary’s new single Baby I’m a Singer, Aotearoa folk artists Greta O’Leary and Fables announce their Spring tour with shows in Auckland and Wellington this October, and hint of more to come.
Joined by their full bands at Auckland’s Tuning Fork, and a more intimate, stripped back show at Wellington’s Meow, this tour presents two spellbinding original folk artists, brought together by a shared love of songwriting, whimsy and springtime. Come delight in one evening (or two) of song, friendship and the magic of collaboration.

“O’Leary’s voice “reminiscent of a hāngī pit” seizes us, “imbued with earthy, smokey tones” - Undertheradar
“Insanely atmospheric and wonderfully crafted" - Ratworld Magazine
"Far from folk music, Fables is a multi-instrumental soundscape; a multitude of layers. - www.muzic.net.nz
"She writes lyrics as some would take photographs. Capturing moments, one frame and phrase at a time" - www.muzic.net.nz/

About Fables:
At the heart of Auckland’s music scene lies Fables, an ensemble guided by the evocative voice of Jessica Bailey. Their sound elegantly marries traditional folk with the nuances of Americana and country, drawing comparisons to the likes of Gillian Welch and Laura Marling.
Fables craft songs that blend personal introspections with enduring themes, inviting you into a world that is richly textured and touched with melancholy. They offer a space where tender moments and powerful sentiments are seamlessly woven together.
Their music is a synthesis of open tunings and lush, dynamic instrumentation. Bailey’s songwriting delves into the nuances of human experience, delivering narratives rich in detail and feeling, leaving an indelible mark on listeners.
Whether performing solo or with a rotating ensemble, Bailey reveals a remarkable range. This fluidity allows Fables to shift seamlessly from the quiet depths of solo sets to the resonant fullness of full band performances, ensuring a captivating musical experience.
About Greta O’Leary:
Recently returning to Tāmaki Makaurau, alternative folk musician Greta O’Leary released her intimate new single Baby I’m a Singer this August. Summoning resemblance to Angel Olsen and Kate Bush, Baby I’m a Singer is a nod to the futile nature of being an artist in the modern world.
Greta is joined by producer/guitarist Jol Mulholland (Lawrence Arabia, Anika Moa).
“A free-thinking aesthetic and a refusal to conform” (Muzic.net), O’Leary soothes yet disrupts us with stories of grief, love, and belonging. Her pervasive, yet spacious sound cuts through the thickest of skins, think Angel Olsen meets Vashti Bunyan down-under.
Quickly establishing herself as a rising force in the Aotearoa music scene, she has recently returned from her debut Australian tour, performed at festivals such as Wellington Gardens Magic Festival, Newtown Festival and Earthbeat, and a collaboration with producer Jol Mulholland (Neil Finn, Anika Moa) and mentorship from Tom Healy (Marlon Williams, Holly Arrowsmith) is seeing the new wave of O’Learys work take form.
