Ymunwch â ni ar gyfer brosiect mwyaf uchelgeisiol NEW Sinfonia erioed – opera gymunedol newydd sbon gyda cherddoriaeth gan Jon Guy a libreto gan Grahame Davies wedi seilio ar stori Trychineb Glofaol Gresffordd gan amlygu ymdeimlad cryf Wrecsam o gymuned yn hanesyddol a phresennol. Mi fydd y perfformiad hefyd yn cynnwys darn o farddoniaeth newydd gan y bardd ac actifydd Evrah Rose.
Ar ddydd Sul 22 Medi 2024, bydd 90 mlynedd wedi bod ers y trychineb tyngedfennol yng Nglofa Gresffordd, un o’r trychinebau glofaol gwaethaf yn hanes Prydain. Mae’r trychineb yn berthnasol ac yn arwyddocaol hyd heddiw, nid yn unig i bobl Wrecsam, ond i gymunedau glofaol ledled Cymru a ledled y DU. Fodd bynnag, ymhen ychydig flynyddoedd, mi fydd cof byw o'r trychineb yn cael ei ymrwymo i hanes.
Mae’r libreto gan Grahame Davies o Goedpoeth wedi’i osod i gerddoriaeth gan y cyfansoddwr a anwyd yn Wrecsam, Jon Guy, a bydd yn cael ei ganu a’i berfformio gan gast o gantorion opera proffesiynol, ein corws opera cymunedol NEW Lleisiau, a’n cerddorfa siambr NEW Sinfonia dan arweiniad Robert Guy.

Join us for what will be NEW Sinfonia’s most ambitious project yet – a brand new community opera with music by Jon Guy and libretto by Grahame Davies, based on the story of the Gresford Mining Disaster highlighting Wrexham’s strong sense of community both past and present. The performance will also feature a brand new spoken word piece by poet and activist Evrah Rose.
On Sunday 22nd September 2024, 90 years will have passed since the fateful disaster at the Gresford Colliery, one of the worst mining disasters in British history. The disaster holds a resonance and significance to this day, not just for the people of Wrexham, but for former mining communities across Wales and throughout the UK. However, in its 90th anniversary year, living memory of the disaster will soon be committed to history.
The libretto by Grahame Davies from Coedpoeth has been set to music by Wrexham born composer Jon Guy and will be sung and performed by a cast of professional opera singers, our community opera chorus NEW Voices, and our chamber orchestra NEW Sinfonia conducted by Robert Guy.
