Greg Osby Quartet
Saxophonist, composer, producer and educator Greg Osby has made an indelible mark on contemporary jazz as a leader of his own ensembles and as a guest artist with other acclaimed jazz groups for the past 37 years. Highly regarded for his insightful and innovative approach to composition and performance, Osby is a shining beacon among the current generation of jazz musicians. He has earned numerous awards and critical acclaim for his recorded works and passionate live appearances and has been recognized by The New York Times as one of the “most provocative musical thinkers of his generation”.
Oran Etkin: Open Arms Project
Oran Etkin has been described as "Ebullient" by the New York Times, "composer of eminent individuality" by Yusef Lateef and voted #1 Rising Star Clarinetist in DownBeat Magazine. With Open Arms Project, Etkin flipped the traditional record-then-tour model, taking time off during his tours to live with mbira masters in Zimbabwe, build collaborative projects with Roma musicians in Czech Republic and compose new music with artists in São Paulo and Paris. As the world closed down last April, Etkin began releasing singles and music videos of each of these Open Arms collaborations that he had recorded on location before the closures. In this live show, Etkin and his band deconstruct and recompose fresh music based on the melodies, rhythms and motifs that Etkin recorded around the world and improvise with fragments of stems from the original field recordings. This combination of deeply traditional sounds with forward-looking improvisations tells the story of an opening and connected world creating a new path forward.
