About this Event

Leica Gallery Boston is excited to present our next exhibition Greetings From Niagara with photographer Natalia Neuhaus.

Once celebrated as the “Honeymoon Capital of the World,” Niagara Falls, NY, hides a haunting legacy beneath its tourist charm. Beneath the surface lies a history of environmental destruction, government negligence, and radioactive contamination— fallout from decades of service to the U.S. military-industrial complex.

Through a powerful blend of archival research and documentary photography, Natalia Neuhaus uncovers this buried past. Greetings From Niagara exposes the hidden costs of progress: radioactive slag embedded in neighborhoods, contaminating the places where people lived, worked, and raised families all while the affected community was left in the dark.

The exhibition will open with a reception on Friday, September 19th from 6-8PM. On Saturday, September 20th from 12-2PM Natalia Neuhaus will give an artist talk about the project and exhibition. The exhibition will be on view from September 19th through November 2nd.

Natalia Neuhaus is a queer photographer who started her career in Lima, Peru, as a freelance photojournalist for newspapers and magazines. In 2007, she moved to the U.S. to attend the San Francisco Art Institute, where she was mentored by Henry Wessel. Her gaze is deeply influenced by the violence that surrounded her childhood, a country desolated by terrorism, and also by the violence experienced at home. In 2017, she was one of the recipients of the Director’s scholarship at ICP, allowing her to attend the full-time documentary program. In 2022, Neuhaus was one of three women accepted into the Leica – VII Agency Mentorship award. Natalia lives in Brooklyn, NY, with her wife and two dogs.
