The Greensboro Contact Jam is happy to be back and thrilled to be partnering with Dance Project: The School in support of their mission! We hope to see you on the following Sundays from 2pm-4pm in the Greensboro Cultural Center, Studio 323:April 13th
April 27th
May 4th
May 18th
What to Expect:
To dance, have fun, learn something new, or return to an old familiar friend!
Full body dancing where you will come into contact with the floor and other human beings.
We always start with a short discussion of the history and practice of CI, safety, and skills class geared toward the participants.
With what time is left- Open Improvisation, What a Contact jam is all about!
Contact Improvisation is a movement practice where bodies communicate and dance together through a shared point of physical contact. Initiated by choreographer Steve Paxton in 1972, this dance form explores the relationship between touch, weight, and momentum, among other things.
Unlike traditional jams- we start with class before moving on to open improvisation. The balance between class time and jam time is based on the participants of the class. If you plan to join us (which we hope you will!), please plan to arrive at the beginning of class. No experience is necessary - just bring comfortable clothes (typically, long pants and long sleeves), an open mind, and a willingness to listen to yourself and others.
Whether you're discovering the form for the first time or have been practicing for years, The Greensboro Contact Jam offers a welcoming space to explore the ever-evolving conversation between bodies in motion.
Todd Fisher and his wife Christine Kiernan Fisher founded The Greensboro Contact Jam in 2008. As co-facilitators and skills instructors, they continue their practice and share it with Greensboro and the greater North Carolina community. Todd and Christine come to you with over 20 years of practice- some apart, some together. They offer these classes and jams free to the public and welcoming of all levels. Experienced mover or first-timer, we’ll bring the group together to move.
