What happens when Brett Underwood says, hey, this guy wants to talk to you? Ya listen. And so we did, and are we glad we did! Brett will MC the evening and make sure nobody totally freaks out except the musicians. They are free to do so.This is the heavy weight division, folks. Damon Smith has played with some of the best jazz players in the world. He moved to STL a few years ago and has been playing around town a bit. He has played in Boston and Houston as a resident and attracted musicians from all over the country to come gig with him. Now in STL, he is doing the same. Coming from each coast, this quartet represents music scenes from Oakland, New York, upstate New York and of course, your own STL. Also presenting music on this night will be an STL violin player who will solo. Not to end it there, we will have local poets doing readings!
Note, this is a free jazz jam. It's for a certain type of listener that wants more than the usual fare. The music will sound like noise to the uninitiated, but to the fan of John Zorn, The Shape of Jazz to Come and Anthony Braxton, it will be extremely exciting.
So, bring your appetite and your thirst and come down to Jack's Joint for a night out. Good food, full bar, world class free jazz. How about that?! (Jack's Joint is on the second floor of the pub).
A word on the money side of things. This is a "suggested donation" evening as far as paying to see the music. It is highly suggested that you "donate" at least $20 a person. There is an ATM in the pub if needed.
