About this Event
This class will cover the Florida-friendly Landscaping™ 9 principles in detail, which focus on sustainable landscaping practices that are intended to reduce water, fertilizer, and pesticides by properly selecting and maintaining plants that thrive, provide nutrients and habitat for birds, pollinators, and other wildlife, and help keep pollution out of our water ways.
This class will include an introductory, classroom-based lecture on sustainable landscaping practices, followed by a 1-hour tour of the 4-acre Florida-Friendly Landscaping demonstration gardens. This tour will provide an excellent opportunity to learn first-hand about plant identification, selection, and maintenance for your very own residential landscape. From pollinator plants, to succulents, to fruit trees, vegetables, and herbs––there is plenty to see, smell, touch, and inspire!
This class will be taught by Dr. Heather Kalaman, Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Agent at UF/IFAS Extension Orange County.
Registration includes the class, two Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ books, a native wildflower pollinator seed packet, and a free rain gauge for Orange County residents.
