GREEN UP DAYSaturday, May 4th is our annual Green-Up Day in Manchester. Volunteers of all ages are asked to report to Charlie’s Café & Coffee House parking lot, 39 Bonnet Street at 9:00 A.M. The town is divided into approximately 15 routes for clean up of roadside litter. Green bags will be available at Charlie’s that morning or for pickup in advance at The Maples, 114 Cemetery Ave and at the Town offices.
To help make this day a fun one, we will “salt” the clean-up routes with colored blocks. Kids who find blocks as they pick-up litter may turn them in for prizes. In addition, there is a trash sculpture contest. This year’s theme is “Mr. Green for President”. The sculpture/statue must be put together with rubbish collected along the clean-up routes. We suggest that if you have any old ski poles without baskets, you bring them, as they make great pokers to get debris out of the ditches.
All participants are invited to partake in a hot-dog roast at noontime. The meal is sponsored by Charlie’s Café & Coffee House and will be held at the starting point at 39 Bonnet Street. In cooperation with Casella Waste Management, we will accept tires in Charlie’s Coffee House parking lot between 9:00 A.M. and noon only. There will be a charge of $3.00/passenger and light truck tire and $5.00/large truck tire. This is half of the usual charge at the Transfer Station/Recycling Center. Please make checks payable to the Town of Manchester.
