Introductory beginner day hike in Khappinghat National Park learning basic skills of hiking, equipment choice, hazards and risks, tips and tricks, navigation using compass and maps. This is a Grade 3 [AWTGS] difficulty hike on dirt road and walking tracks with some short, steep hills covering around 6km and 150m elevation, with some short off-track sections to test navigation skillset. Fitness ability relates to being able to walk with a pack [* not provided bring what you wish to train with and not fully loaded ] for 3 hours in undulating terrain.
This "Thongs or Flip Flops Hike" is a Beginner introductory hike progressing to our Advanced Hikes 4 & 5 & 6 "Scarpa Boots" Hikes later in Coorabakh National Park, the Barrington Tops National Park and our multi-day Warrumbungles National park hike & camp event which are for experienced hikers only.
This class would be seen as a prerequisite for these more advanced hikes. Start time 7:30am for a finish by 11am. Bring your own snacks and drinks, own backpack,2L water, hat, sunscreen, raincoat and insect repellent, small towel, change of clothing at the end. No public toilets on site, only hectares of pristine natural forest and wonderful trails.
What's included: Guided experienced activity, loan of compass, maps , basic navigation instruction and tasks, briefing on hiking information and safety and comfort tips and tricks. Guide will carry PLB,First Aid Kit , Snake bandages and is Wilderness First Aid trained.
Whats not included : Your pack, your own food and water snacks and drinks. This is an all-weather event unless conditions are deemed to be dangerous and will be notified the night prior to the activity with the option to re-schedule.
