Squonk’s Brouhaha in partnership with Houston First
This year people bring the performance power when Discovery Green presents an immersive outdoor spectacle bursting with rollicking music, dazzling imagery and the thrill of audience participation: Squonk’s Brouhaha. When people provide the power, no carbon emissions are needed.
More than just a concert, these musicians bring to the center of their riotous romp a “Squonkcordion” – an enormous musical instrument the audience gets to play. Squonk creates joyful, boisterous outdoor spectacles by fusing fantastical visual design, playful staging, and high-energy original music. Led by Co-Artistic Directors Jackie Dempsey and Steve O’Hearn. The New York Times called Squonk “ingenious, hallucinatory and hypnotic.”
Squonk’s Brouhaha performance coincides with Green Mountain Energy Earth Day and the First Robotics Competition held that weekend at the George R. Brown. Get inspired by the collaboration when the music, art and performance of Discovery Green combine with the youthful curiosity of teens at First Robotics.
Houston Public Works’ Water Works Festival
Each year, Houston Public Works hosts the Water Works Festival to engage and educate the public about the value of water. Emphasis is on topics such as water conservation, the water cycle, local water systems, species habitats, weather, water quality and ecology. Additionally, attendees can learn about the City’s water supply, water purification plants, wastewater treatment systems, conservation efforts, drought plan, stormwater projects and more.
