Event Description:

Green crabs are making waves on our coastline!

Join us to explore the forces driving their spread and discover what this range expansion means for staples of our coastal ecosystems and fisheries, including Dungeness crab, clams, and oysters.

Green crabs prey on shellfish and tear up the eelgrass that provides critical habitat for so many of our estuarine and marine species. With their high tolerance for temperature and salinity, green crabs have become a global challenge. They were first introduced to the West Coast via San Francisco Bay in the 1980s, and they have since spread throughout estuaries and bays in Oregon and Washington, and recently as far north as Alaska.

So how concerned should we be? And what can we do about it?

Join the conversation as we tackle these questions with Dr. Sylvia Yamada, a leading voice on the spread of green crabs in the Pacific Northwest.
