After a huge past year sharing the stage with heavyweights like Frank Turner (UK), Tiny Moving Parts (USA), Luca Brasi and The Smith Street Band, Sydney/Gadigal indie-punk quartet Great Job! proudly reveal the first taste of their debut album with the raw and anthemic new single, ‘Take Your Meds’.Blending brutally honest storytelling with an Australiana-infused emo-punk sound, ‘Take Your Meds’ confronts the reality of severing ties with prescription medication and the unexpected weight of withdrawals and side effects. Vocalist Charlie Hollands delivers a commanding performance, capturing both numbness and empowerment, whilst the band strips the instrumentation back to channel the song’s gritty lyricism.
“This song is named after the alarm I have on my phone that buzzes every morning,” confesses Charlie. “It’s about breaking things off with someone and initially feeling freedom before being proven that not only was it not only the wrong decision, but a life threatening one. Because it's not about a person at all… It's about that whole romanticized idea that medication is a hindrance to the soul, and that the answer isn't valiantly throwing a bottle of prescription pills into a lake.”
Produced, mixed, and mastered by guitarist James Vermeesch, ‘Take Your Meds’ is a cathartic showcase of Great Job's ability to craft heart-on-sleeve, high-energy music. With its crowd-chant-worthy choruses and unfiltered intensity, the track captures the same spirit that makes the band’s live shows unforgettable. Each lyric feels like a shared moment of defiance and unity.
With their debut album set to drop later this year and a growing reputation for their magnetic live performances, 2025 is already shaping up to be Great Job's busiest year yet.
Great Job! will officially launch ‘Take Your Meds’ on March 7 at Monster Mouse in Sydney. For more details head to: https://linktr.ee/greatjobband
