Next week at our Monday March 31 Great Hall Lunchtime concert we have Cameron Pearce (the trumpet player on our brochure!) and Symposium Brass. This concert will feature Cam’s original compositions for the album Progressions, recorded last year in New York, and released on Rattle records.
This premier live performance will feature Cam, and four brass players from the CSO, including trumpets Thomas Eves, Barrett Hocking and trombones Pablo Ruiz Hanao and Scott Taitoko. Also drummer Joe McCallum who has just returned from a European tour with Nadia Reid, lead saxophone soloist Jimmy Rainey, conducted by Tom Rainey.
The sound is mellow, rich and warm with beautiful melodies that deftly infuse intimate chamber jazz with influences from Copland, Reich and the New Orleans marching band.
“Progression deftly straddles classical and jazz in being, on the one hand, a concerto-like piece …. and on the other, an ambitious jazz-inflected suite that affords ample space for the improvising soloist”. March 2025 Textura.org
You just have to come and experience this!
