GREASE IS THE WORD AT ACTUP THEATER
"Grease" is a musical that debuted in 1971 and later became a popular film in 1978. Set in the 1950s at Rydell High School, it follows the love story between Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson. After a summer romance, Sandy unexpectedly transfers to Rydell, only to find that Danny is part of the school's greaser gang, the T-Birds, while she befriends the Pink Ladies. The musical explores themes of teenage love, peer pressure, and societal expectations, featuring iconic songs like "Summer Nights" and "Greased Lightnin'." The storyline also addresses the challenges of fitting in and conforming to social norms, ultimately celebrating individuality.
