Welcome to Gray’s Groupies’ Greater Columbus Buddy Walk® event page! Hey everyone! I just had to share this incredible journey with you. Not too long after finding out we were expecting, we discovered that Grayson would have Down syndrome. It was a shock, and I went through a whirlwind of emotions - from grief and denial to fear of the unknown. I wished desperately for a support system of parents who had walked the same path, but I didn't know where to find one in my area. It wasn't until months after Grayson was born that I was connected with the president of the Down syndrome association. Now, as Grayson approaches his 9th birthday in April (can you believe it??), my passion for helping families in similar situations has only grown. That's why, in January, I was honored to be voted in as President of the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Columbus!
The last few months have been a whirlwind as we work to get things rolling again. And guess what? We’re bringing back the always fun and exciting Buddy Walk to Columbus, Ga this year! But we need your help. You can join us on October 5th for the walk to celebrate and promote acceptance for Down syndrome. And even if you're not local, you can still support us by donating! If you can't donate, that's okay too! Please spread the word and share our link with everyone you know. Your support is not just important; it's transformative for our mission to bring families together and provide them with crucial resources and support.
With your help, we're not just aiming to sustain our current programs; we're looking to innovate and expand to meet the evolving needs of our families. We're planning new initiatives, such as custom-designed welcome baskets for new parents and age-specific workshops to provide targeted support for families at every stage of their child's development. Our Family and Community Engagement events are more than just gatherings - they're lifelines of educational workshops and community-building events that take place throughout the year. And our scholarship program enables families to attend the Annual National Down Syndrome Council Convention, offering unparalleled insights, support, and connections. By walking with us or donating, you're becoming part of a community that's dedicated to making a real, lasting difference. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today. Your contribution will help us take a significant step toward achieving our goal and making sure every family has access to the support they need.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support. It's wonderful people like you who make all of this possible.
Love,
The Defenbaugh family
