ΣΥΜΒΟΛΙΚΟΣ ΚΑΘΑΡΙΣΜΟΣ “GHOST NETS” ΑΠΟ ΤΟΝ ΒΥΘΟ ΤΗΣ ΒΡΑΧΟΝΗΣΙΔΑΣ ΓΡΑΒΙΑ(English below)
Τα μπλεγμένα δίχτυα των ψαράδων στη θάλασσα τα λεγόμενα 'GHOST NETS' , θεωρούνται τα πιο θανατηφόρα θαλάσσια απορρίμματα και αποτελούν μια εξαιρετικά σημαντική περιβαλλοντική απειλή παγκοσμίως.
Στο νησί με σχήμα γοργόνας την Κέρκυρα, The Mermaid Island©, κατόπιν τοπικής πρωτοβουλίας, προγραμματίζεται η αφαίρεση 'Διχτυών Φάντασμα' από τον βυθό της βραχονησίδας ΓΡΑΒΙΑ απέναντι από την παραλία του Αρίλλα στo ΒΔ τμήμα του νησιού με σκοπό την ευαισθητοποίηση του κόσμου ως προς το θέμα αυτό.
Η απήχηση της περσινής δράσης της Mermaids in Action που πραγματοποιήθηκε στον βυθό του Πόρτο Τιμόνι, όπου πάνω από 30 συμμετέχοντες ένωσαν τις δυνάμεις τους σε έναν συμβολικό καθαρισμό της ακτής και του βυθού, οδήγησε στην σύσταση της φετινής ομάδας που αποτελείται από ντόπιους ψαράδες, επαγγελματίες δύτες και εθελοντικές ομάδες της περιοχής, ενώ μεγαλώνει το βάθος και ο βαθμός δυσκολίας του έργου.
To πιο ηχηρό αποτέλεσμα IMPACT μέχρι στιγμής είναι ότι η Ionian Environment Foundation έκρινε αρκετά σημαντική την δράση μας ώστε να υποστηρίξει χρηματικά και επικοινωνιακά το έργο μας GRAVIA GHOST NETS που είναι αποτέλεσμα τοπικής πρωτοβουλίας και ομαδικής συνέργειας και δράσης. Θα ακολουθήσει και αφαίρεση διχτυών από δεύτερη τοποθεσία που θα ανακοινωθεί στην συνέχεια.
Ευχαριστούμε την Edmiston για τη στήριξή της ώστε να γίνει το έργο αυτό πραγματικότητα.
Την δράση αυτή θα πλαισιώσει με εκπαιδευτική παρουσίαση για μικρούς και μεγάλους η ομάδα της Mermaids Corfu στον Πολιτιστικό Σύλλογο του Αρίλλα σε ημερομηνία που θα επικοινωνηθεί. Θα ακολουθήσει καλλιτεχνική δραστηριότητα με θέμα τα “ΔΙΧΤΥΑ ΦΑΝΤΑΣΜΑ” υπό την επίβλεψη της δασκάλας καλλιτεχνικών, κ. Δήμητρας Κληρονόμου.
Πιο συγκεκριμένα η συμβολική δράση καθαρισμού θα διεξαχθεί τον φετινό Οκτώβριο του 2025 το πρωί της Κυριακής 5 ή 12 ανάλογα με τις καιρικές συνθήκες. Τον υποβρύχιο καθαρισμό έχουν αναλάβει το Corfu Diving Fun Club που έχει βάση την παραλία του Αγίου Γεωργίου, Πάγων, οι Mermaids Corfu, και ντόπιοι ψαράδες της περιοχής.
Στην δράση μας θα συμμετέχουν ενεργά επίσης ο Πολιτιστικός Σύλλογος του Αρίλλα και η ομάδα δράσης ΕΠΟΜΕΑ Β. Κέρκυρας που θα παρέχουν παράλληλα με την δράση, ενημέρωση σε ειδικό περίπτερο στην παραλία του Αρίλλα.
Την υποστήριξη της δράσης αυτής συμβάλουν πρακτικά οι παρακάτω επιχειρήσεις και φορείς της περιοχής.

UNDERWATER CLEANUP OF "GHOST NETS" FROM GRAVIA ISLAND
Entangled nets in the sea, so-called 'GHOST NETS', are considered the deadliest marine litter because they pose an extremely significant environmental threat worldwide for the marine environment and its inhabitants.
As a result of an initiative that started off by a team of local teenagers a few years back, there are now plans to remove 'Ghost Nets' from the seabed of the small island of Gravia opposite Arillas beach in the northwestern part of Corfu, The Mermaid Island© in order to raise public awareness on this issue.
The impact of last year's Mermaids in Action campaign, which took place at Porto Timoni, where more than 30 participants joined forces in a symbolic underwater clean-up of the coast and seabed, led to the formation of this year's team, which consists of local fishermen, professional divers, and volunteer groups from the area, while the depth and degree of difficulty are increasing.
The most significant result so far and marker of the impact a small community can have when it decides to take action, is that the Ionian Environment Foundation considers it important enough to support our GRAVIA GHOST NETS project and a second dive in a location that will be announced shortly.
As a result of our local initiative, teamwork and action towards a common goal, the Ionian Environment Foundation is now supporting us financially and through their communication networks.
We would like to thank Edmiston for its support in making this project a reality.
The removal of GRAVIA GHOST NETS will be followed by an educational presentation of our findings for all ages by the Mermaids Corfu team at the Arillas Cultural Association on a date to be announced. The project will also be accompanied by an art project for children on the theme of ‘GHOST NETS’ under the supervision of art teacher Ms. Dimitra Klironomou.
More specifically, the symbolic clean-up will take place this October 2025 on the morning of Sunday 5 or 12, depending on weather conditions. The underwater clean-up will be undertaken by the Corfu Diving Fun Club, based on the beach of Agios Georgios, Pagon, Mermaids Corfu, and local fishermen from the area.
The Cultural Association of Arillas and EPOMEA.B.K civil rescue group will also be actively involved in our campaign, providing information and first aid demonstrations at a special kiosk on Arillas beach during the dive.
