IF you would like to attend a workshop session to learn how to properly clean and even restore gravestones you have a great opportunity August 1 in Bowling Green, KY. There will not be one closer to Overton County. On that day one of the best experts on monument maintenance and preservation, Atlas Preservation's Jonathan Appell will give a 6 hour session in the Pioneer Cemetery in Bowling Green. Here's the link. I recommend it. -- Below are some of my family graves I have worked on in Allred, Tennessee. You can see the difference between the before and after on the photos of the small stone. This was not scrubing and definitely NOT bleach or harsh chemicals. Those will dissolve the stone. - Also note the tent grave. The headstone has been treated the previous year when it was covered with the lichens, algae and fungus as you can see on the tent stones and the foot stone. This shows my daughter and granddaughter who are treating the rest of the tent grave this year. - - - Peace, my friends
