The music of the Grateful Dead is like a tree with many roots and many branches. Jug band, country, bluegrass, jazz, and folk…they knew it all. Come dig into those roots and explore some of those branches in a weekend musical retreat put on by the Old Town School of Folk Music and White Oak Savanna. Old Town School teachers will teach workshops centered on the skills, techniques, and repertoire that get at the heart of the Grateful Dead, Mother McCree’s Uptown Jug Champions, Old and In the Way, The Pizzas Tapes and more. When not in workshops, you can jam at stations around the beautiful grounds, including late night campfire jams. Got some picking buddies? Sign up for the open stage event and show off your chops and perform alongside Old Town School teachers. Come spend a weekend playing good music with good people. The retreat will happen at the beautiful grounds of White Oak Savanna in Dodgeville, WI. White Oak Savanna’s facilities are ADA accessible and include a performance space in the renovated barn, restrooms, showers and kitchen. Camping on site is free, including parking for RV campers (no hookups). If you’d rather stay in a hotel, there are many options just minutes from White Oak Savanna. The Old Town School will have rooms blocked out at Best Western and AmericInn in Dodgeville, or you can make your own arrangements. Food and drinks will be available for purchase at the retreat kitchen or you are welcome to bring your own provisions (no outside alcohol).
