Learn the Art of Pruning this Spring with Lake Michigan College!

Whether you're new to pruning or looking to refine your techniques, this workshop offers expert guidance in a friendly and approachable environment. Taught by Mike de Schaaf - MSU Extension Farm Manager and LMC Viticulture Adjunct Faculty - who will be bringing over 30 years of wine and viticulture experience to this workshop!
What You’ll Learn
Foundations of Pruning: Understand why pruning is essential for vine health and fruit quality.
Training Systems: Explore the most common grapevine training methods used in hybrid, juice, and vinifera grape production.
Practical Techniques: Receive hands-on instruction on spur and cane pruning, and learn how to identify and avoid common mistakes.
Vine Assessment: Learn how to evaluate vine health, winter damage, and adjust pruning strategies accordingly.

This class runs concurrently with LMC's Wine and Viticulture Technology "Grapevine Pruning" course on Thursday afternoons from 2:30pm-4:50pm on March 20, March 27, and April 3. Class meets at MSU Extension's SWMREC.
