A walk that follows the Granton Burn, the original western boundary of Granton. Beginning at Granton Mill / Pennywell and ending at the mouth of the burn on Granton (brick) beach. This is a Festival of Terminalia walk, and the theme of this year’s festival is rock, so we will look for boundary stones as we walk and build a small cairn together on the beach, creating a landmark for the Granton Burn. The Festival of Terminalia is held on 23rd February each year and celebrates boundaries and landmarks. It takes its name from the Roman God, Terminus, and was historically the last religious feast day before the Romans celebrated their new year on 1 March. This walk is part of a UK-wide festival of walking, space, and place. https://terminaliafestival.org/
We will take the bus from DNC, shortly after 10am, to Pennywell Cottages at the corner of Marine Drive and West Granton Rd. Those not leaving from DNC can meet us there at 10.25. On the way back from the beach, it’s a short, uphill walk on the Spiers Bruce Way between the Social Bite Village and the entrance to the Granton Castle Walled Garden, to get the bus back from in front of the British Gas building.
