About this Event

[This is an online event via Zoom.]

Our identities shape our beliefs, values, expectations, perceptions, and actions, which is why it is important to develop skills to engage across differences. Grantmakers are asking grant seekers to respond to equity questions in their proposals. This is a clear message from foundation and government funders that this is an important issue and that there is an expectation that you are thinking about it. However, equity across the arts and culture sector is not about checking off a box. It is about being intentional and willing to put in the work to reshape who you are and what you stand for so that everyone has a chance to thrive within arts and cultural organizations and experience art and culture reflective of their own identities.

Get grounded in the priorities of Bay Area arts and culture funders.

This interactive workshop will include information and discussions on the historical and ongoing inequities of cultural funding, engaging across differences, the importance of cultural competence in language, and the difference between inclusion and self-determination. Participants will be presented with and discuss tools and best practices for mindfully incorporating these ideas into their work as artists and arts and cultural organization leaders, fundraisers, and administrators. No matter where you are in your equity journey, we hope you will join our workshop and come prepared to participate in one on one and group discussions.

In this workshop participants will:

- Gain information on the historical and ongoing inequities of cultural funding

- Discuss Tools for Engaging Across Differences

- Understand the importance of cultural competence in language

- Discuss the difference between inclusion and self-determination

This workshop will be facilitated by Intersection for the Arts' Grant Specialist, Krista Smith. Smith is a grantwriter with her fingers on the pulse of San Francisco Bay Area and California based arts and cultural funders and their priorities. She is also a longtime community arts and cultural advocate, working with artists, arts and cultural organizations, and arts and cultural funders to advance intersectional cultural equity throughout the arts and culture field. Smith is a white fat queer femme who has been a practicing artist for over four decades.

REFUND POLICY: You may request a full refund (excluding Eventbrite fees) before the start of the program on the day of the workshop, after which point no refund can be processed.
