Folks, there’s a new rockabilly band in town – Grant Edwards & The Cousins-In-Law.Grant Edwards, 42, has “the music” in him. It may have first grown in spirit, raised in an extremely strict religious sect, Edwards divine is not complete without song. At age 28, Grant quit his church opening a path of continued reflection and growth, a path he hopes never ends. Music and playing gigs have been part of a transcending journey ever since.
Grant and his two siblings took piano lessons as young children. His father had an old nylon string guitar that his dad played while in the service. Grant affectionately recalls the age of twelve as the period he and his cousin Collin picked up guitars, went to the family basement and began experimenting with varied music genres. At times, reprimanded for getting a bit loud and rowdy – “watch that worldly music and the youthful rebellion,” Grant and Collin were energized by playing music. By age 15, Grant was on an electric guitar, a faithful and treasured piece he still brings out today at his performances. When the rockabilly starts, the audience can expect a whole lot of boot, scoot, and boogie from Edwards, as he kicks, slides, and engages the audience in an upbeat tempo.
Edwards is a union plumber by trade and today works locally as a carpenter. He enjoys public speaking, teaching, and performing. He served as President of his Union and an apprenticeship instructor while he was living in the Minneapolis-Metro area. For a decade Grant performed lead guitar and harmony as part of a 4-piece band: The False Profits. He credits open mic nights emboldening his love of performance art.
