About this Event
Please join us for a heartwarming event hosted by Venezuelans and Immigrants Aid (VIA) and James Cohan Gallery on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, from 6-8 PM at 52 Walker, 2nd Floor. Drinks and small bites will be served.
Through VIA and James Cohan Gallery's partnership, newly arrived migrants from Latin America have been learning to crochet granny squares at the gallery on Sunday afternoons for the past eight months. While crocheting, the men, women, and kids talk, heal, and build community, relationships, and skills.
At this event, our goal is to showcase and sell the Granny Square Workshop participants' crochet wares. The funds raised will be used to support the Sunday classes and gain support for the work we do.
Through their connection to VIA, forced migrants and asylum seekers struggle to gain a foothold in New York City and access to the information and resources they need to establish healthy, stable, and productive lives. VIA operates on a shoestring budget and helps 12,000 people yearly through legal orientations, weekly meetings at a church on the Upper West Side, peer support programs, English classes, regular Zoom conferences on matters critical to gaining asylum status, cultural activities, and various social gatherings.
Please click here if you cannot attend but would still like to donate to VIA, a 501(c) 3 tax-deductible organization.
