Grandview Nature Preserve Beach Hike (Hampton, VA) 🌾🐚🥾When: Sunday, November 16 @ 11:00 AM 🕚
Distance/Pace: ~5 miles total, easy–moderate on sand; conversational with regroup points 🚶♀️🚶♂️
Terrain: Short gravel path to the beach, then firm/soft sand (easiest near low tide) 🪨➡️🏖️🌊
Plan: We’ll follow the marsh path to the Chesapeake Bay, then walk the wide beach toward Factory Point and back (turn-around options ~3 miles). Expect big skies, shorebirds, and open coastline. Please stay off dunes and posted nesting areas. 🌤️🐦🌾
Meet & Parking: 📍 End of State Park Dr — street parking only on the right (north of Beach Rd); trailhead is at the very end of State Park Dr. Spots can fill on busy days, so arrive a little early. 🚗
Restrooms: 🚻 No bathrooms on site at Grandview. Pre/post stop: Buckroe Beach & Park (100 S First St, Hampton) has public restrooms near the playground (off-season hours vary). ✅
Dogs: 🐶 Leashed dogs allowed (off-season).
After-hike lunch: 🍽️ We’ll meet at Surf Rider Bluewater — 1 Marina Rd, Hampton, VA 23669 | (757) 723-9366. Anyone who wants to join is welcome.
Bring: 🎒 Water 💧, wind layer 🧥, sun protection 🧢, and shoes that handle sand. Pack in/pack out (no trash cans). 🚯
Weather safety: ⚠️ We’ll cancel for thunderstorms, lightning, high winds, or coastal flood advisories. Dress for wind/chill and check for updates the morning of. ⛈️💨🌧️
