Welcome to the second running of the Grand Prix de NorFLA!The GPdNF is a unique two-person time trial ride that traverses some of the loveliest roads very close to Gainesville, Florida.
Pair up with a friend to ride the proposed course as fast or slow as possible (course released the day before the event), take photos along the way if so inclined! Team composition can be same-gender, mixed-gender, anything goes. Both riders must finish together, no dropping your best friend :) Beers and food post ride at Blue Highway a Pizzeria, conveniently located at Tioga Town Center.
We don't believe in a lot of rules, but the following apply:
1. Time Trial / Aerobars Not Welcome (this includes mini extensions, Kitchen Sink handlebar, etc).
2. No drafting other teams. If you're caught by a faster team, let them go. A team was busted cheating last year, drafting the fastest team... shameful. You know who you are.
3. Everything else relating to bicycle components / clothing is open, aero wheels, skinsuits, helmets, whatever!
4. Don't be a prong and make stupid Strava segments of the course. The organizers will make a temporary Strava segment of the course for timing purposes, but then it will be deleted. We like to use a different course each year, to keep things interesting.
Event Date, Time and Location Details:
Saturday, November 2, 2024.
Meet at the Tioga Town Center Square (plenty of parking about the place).
13085 SW 1 Ln, Newberry, FL 32669
Meet at 9:00am, roll at 9:15am as a group to the starting point of the ride. Teams will be sent off in one minute intervals.
ROUTE: Posted the day before the event. Will likely be 25 miles in length.
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT BICYCLE CHOICE:
Cyclocross or Mountain bikes are recommended for this ride. The road surfaces are NOT road bike friendly, please leave your road bike at home.
NO AEROBARS.
Those on Mountain bikes, it is recommended you you fit a faster rolling tire that rolls well on pavement. Heavy, offroad specific tires with lots of knobs will really hurt your speed on the paved sectors.
NFFGS guidelines for all our events:
* The organizers make no claims as to the surface or traffic conditions of any route. We post the maps, you decide to ride.
* These are open public roads with all the hazards included thereon. Know your skills, know your physical limits. Ride at YOUR OWN risk. THE COURSE IS OPEN TO TRAFFIC. PLEASE RESPECT ALL RULES OF THE ROAD.
* We'll be doing our usual pleasant roll out of town together to the agreed "go fast" point, and regroup at the "finish", to ride collectively back into town. Think of the roll out / roll down as social hour on a bicycle :)
Do not litter, be kind to locals. These roads are local to the Gravel Cyclist & NFFGS, we wish to keep our friendly relationships with many of the local landowners. Being a good steward is also part of being a good cyclist.
* Now get out and ride!
