About this Event
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
This is a fun run/ walk. Everyone is welcomed regardless of age, race, country of origin, etc.. Participants will have an opportunity to line up with world famous athletes of African origin to take part in the 5km long fun run/ walk/ sporting festival. These famous athletes will be joining us (including Derartu Tulu and Million Wolde) to encourage and support you.
Children can register and run/walk in the 1km run.
WHAT IS INCLUDED WITH MY REGISTRATION?
Your registration includes the 2022 edition participant packet including a race bib and race T-shirt.
PACKET PICKUP
For pre-race packet pickup, you must have a photo I.D.
Pickup date and location: Thursday, Oct-13 (from 1:00pm to 6:00pm) and Friday, Oct-14 (from 10:00am to 7:30pm). Locations: (1) Virginia (Alexandria) from Jack Taylor's Alexandria Toyota @ 3750 Richmond Hwy, Alexandria, VA 22305; or (2) Maryland (Silver Spring) from Beteseb Restaurant @ 8201 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20910;
When you come to collect your race packet: Make sure that you have your photo I.D. with you; Do not forget to keep your tickets handy. Download them on your phone or print them out; Bring either downloaded or printed ticket to your chosen location for event packet pick-up. Please note that to take part in the Grand African Run; the tradition is that everyone needs to put on the event’s official T-shirt and a bib number. There will be screening at the entrance and please make sure that you are wearing your official T-shirt and bib number.
WHERE ARE THE START AND FINISH AREAS?
Start and Finish are at the same location - Wharf Jitney - East Potomac Dock. The race course forms a loop.
WHAT CHARITY DO YOU SUPPORT?
Every year a charity that focuses on children wellbeing receives the proceeds from the event. This year, the proceeds will go to a not-for-profit organization that will be announced soon.
