Roy "Gramps" Morgan is a three-time Grammy Award-winning artist and 14-time Grammy nominee known as the King of Country Reggae. He first rose to prominence as a member of the legendary reggae family band Morgan Heritage, whose 2015 album Strictly Roots topped the Reggae charts and won the Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 2016. The group earned further nominations for Avrakedabra (2017) and for their work on Sting and Shaggy's 44/876.
Gramps launched his solo career with 2 Sides of My Heart, Volume 1, earning national attention with an appearance on Good Morning America. He toured with India.Arie, John Legend, and reggae icon Buju Banton. His collaboration with India.Arie on the 2009 hit single "Therapy" reached #22 on Billboard's R&B and Adult Contemporary charts, marking his highest-charting single to date. Their creative synergy continued with further collaborations, including "Thy Will Be Done" from India.Arie's SongVersation album and her contribution to Gramps' 2012 album Reggae Music Lives.
Despite his successful solo ventures, Gramps has remained dedicated to Morgan Heritage while expanding his own musical vision. In 2012, he relocated to Nashville, a city he fell in love with while touring with India.Arie. Today, he resides in Music City with his wife, cell and developmental biologist Dr. Annabelle Morgan, and their children.
Recorded in Nashville, "People Like You" became the first product of the Morgan-Reid collaboration-a heartfelt tribute to frontline heroes of the COVID-19 pandemic and two dearly departed figures: Gramps' uncle and Morgan Heritage producer Robert "Bobby Digital" Dixon.
"I grew up listening to soul and reggae music," Gramps explained, "but when we would make Sunday dinner-we called it 'rice and peas day'-all we listened to was old reggae and country songs. I developed a great appreciation for country music and always wanted to create music that celebrated both reggae and country."
