Marcozzi Contemporary Theater is very happy to announce the new start of the GPL for the season 2024-2025 in Berlin!!
GPL - Groove Performance Lab - is an annual course of physical theater led by Daniela Marcozzi with the assistance of Melissa Derio and Ilaria di Maio, with one month of vocal training led by Melissa Derio. The process ends in May with a performance in Berlin.

The GPL includes approaches and exercises of physical theater, vocal training, movement research, dance, techniques of embodiment, physical dramaturgy, performance art and devised theater.
It is addressed to people with a previous experience in the performing arts or people with interest and urgency in the performing arts.
The work will touch on different performance disciplines:
- Theater and physical theater training, work in the space, stage presence, self-awareness, movements and contemproary dance.
- “Plastique Sequence” from J. Grotowski's training that Daniela has learnt from Peter Rose, a theater director and performer from NYC, former student of Grotowski. The “Plastique Sequence” aims to open the performer's body and bring it into direct and authentic relationship with the other people and the rest of the environment.
- Movement research, narration of the gesture, of the action and of the movement. Plastic, rhythm exercises, physical composition.
- Sensory and somatic awareness.
- Vocal training work, vocal expression, musicality, sense of harmony. Body resonators, “body-voice training” coming from Grotowski's training.
- Hints of theater theory, bibliography for reference.
- Improvisation: different improvisational methods on movements, dance, physical theater, vocal work.
- Creation of the performance: text work, improvisations, costumes and props.
- Voice Module by Melissa Derio: work on connection between body and voice, breathing awareness and connection between breath movement and voice - exercises inspired by the ATT (Atem–Tonus–Ton) method, discovery of sounds, resonators and different “sound colours” of the own voice, - exercises inspired by the Roy Hart work, free vocal improvisation and voice as source of creativity, work on musicality of language…

Please note that there might be changes in the calendar, mostly on the dates of the performance and tech rehearsals.

The GPL is divided into 3 modules and the payment is made by module. It is possible to divide the payment of each module in 2 or 3 parts, but each module has to be paid fully.
1.First module (October, November, December 2024): 270 euro
One payment: 270 Euro by 15.10
Two payments: 135 Euro by 15.10, 135 Euro by 01.11
2. Second Module (February, March): 135 Euro
One payment: 135 Euro by 10.02
Two payments: 68 Euro by 10.02, 67 Euro by 27.02
3. Third module (March, April, May): 390 euro
One payment: 390 Euro by 15.03
Two payments: 195 Euro by 15.03, 195 Euro 01.04
Three payments: 130 Euro by 15.03, 130 Euro by 01.04, 130 Euro by 20.04.
Note on payments:
- The policy of payment of Marcozzi Contemporary Theater is inclusive. Please, if you have economical issues but you still want to work with us, let us know. We are open to alternative solutions.
- Reimburse of the module is generally not possible. In case of request, we’ll consider it case by case.
- It is possible to do a trial session for 30 euro.
- Absences: we offer a possibility to recuperate: along the year, we’ll set a few training sessions offered by Marcozzi Contemporary Theater to recuperate absences.
