November 16, 10am-3pm (brief lunch break, BYO)More often than not unpredictable images emerge while producing artwork. Their appearance can be disturbing and unnerving if the artist is not prepared for and mindful of the rewards these images can bring to the piece. This workshop will help us not to erase, fight, or dispense with these appearances but to embrace the possibilities they offer. Essential hands-on materials and instruction will focus on these oddities and how to refine them into a worthwhile finished product. We will be working with gouache as it is quick drying and easy to apply.
Materials to be brought by students:
1-Sketchbook, 8”x10”
1- Sheet Hot Press paper, 22”x30”
1- Basic gouache set
1- Palette for color mixing
Brushes of various sizes
Pencils, both graphite and colored, gum eraser
3/4” Frog tape
Bio:
I recently moved to Billings, Montana from Salida, Colorado and have a small studio in my new home. Check my website, www.apogeeartstudio.com, to see the style in which I work. My artistic journey started early in life when my mother delivered a set of tempera paints to my room. The delight of mixing two primary colors to form a third was magical. I graduated from the School of Architecture at Auburn University with a degree in Interior Design, a field I pursued for 25 years. I spent my time designing professional and commercial spaces in conjunction with various architectural firms before becoming an independent consultant. During this time, I remained active in the art sector using my design senses in 2D expression. To maintain a sustained inventive technique I continue to stay informed as new media and methods of expression arise.
I am particularly pleased by having pieces shown in the North by Northwest Exhibit at the Yellowstone Art Museum, Billings, MT, the New Vanguard Exhibit at Keep Contemporary in Santa Fe, NM, Stark Gallery and Core Gallery in Denver, CO and various galleries in California
