🕸️ WHAT IS BALLROOM
Ballroom culture was born in the late 1960s in Harlem, New York, created by Black and Latinx trans women in response to racism and exclusion from white-dominated pageant spaces. What began as an act of resistance has since grown into a global underground movement centered around the BIPOC LGBTQ+ community.
Ballroom is about freedom, chosen family and radical self-expression.
Vogue Ball is a dance, fashion, and identity competition where participants express themselves through various categories, showcasing style, creativity and individuality rooted in ballroom culture. These categories celebrate beauty, realness, fashion, sex appeal and performance - all within a safe and empowering space.
If you are not from the community yet, please be mindful of the space you take. If you would like to participate, study the categories and history beforehand. Feel free to reach out to organizers with any questions - we are here to guide and support you.

🕸️ WHAT IS J-FEST
J-Fest is more than just a dance festival - it's a cultural platform that unites creativity, movement and social impact. Originally launched in 2019 as a final school project at Jõhvi Gymnasium, J-Fest has since grown into a multi-city event that takes place in Jõhvi and Tallinn.
The festival brings together people of all ages, backgrounds and experience levels through a rich mix of formats: Showcase Edition, Battle Edition, Vogue Balls, Laboratory, Conference. Its mission is to create a free, inclusive environment where individuals of all ages and backgrounds can express themselves boldly and connect across boundaries of identity, culture and geography.
J-Fest stands out as a space where emerging dancers, young creatives and international artists meet to exchange, experiment, and elevate one another. Rooted in values of freedom, empowerment and accessibility, the festival plays a key role in amplifying youth voices, supporting regional development, and building bridges between local and global dance communities.

🕸️ MIS ON BALLROOM
Ballroom-kultuur sündis 1960. aastate lõpus Harlemis, New Yorgis. Selle lõid mustanahalised ja ladinaameerika transnaised vastusena rassismile ja valgete domineeritud iludusvõistlustelt tõrjumisele. Sellest vastupanuliikumisest on tänaseks saanud globaalne underground-kogukond, mille keskmes on BIPOC LGBTQ+ inimesed.
Ballroom seisneb vabaduses, valitud perekonnas ja radikaalses eneseväljenduses.
Vogue Ball on tantsu-, moe- ja identiteedivõistlus, kus osalejad väljendavad end erinevates kategooriates, tuues esile oma stiili, loovuse ja isikupära, mis on juurdunud ballroom-kultuuris. Kategooriad tähistavad ilu, ehedust, moodi, seksikust ja esinemisoskust - kõik turvalises ja jõustavas keskkonnas.
Kui sa veel ei kuulu kogukonda, palume sul olla teadlik, kus ruumi astud. Kui soovid osaleda, tutvu eelnevalt kategooriate ja ballroom’i ajalooga. Küsimuste korral võta julgelt ühendust korraldajatega - oleme siin, et sind toetada ja suunata.

🕸️ MIS ON J-FEST
J-Fest ei ole lihtsalt tantsufestival - see on kultuuriplatvorm, mis ühendab loovuse, liikumise ja ühiskondliku mõju. Festival sai alguse 2019. aastal Jõhvi Gümnaasiumis eksamitööna ning on tänaseks kasvanud mitut linna hõlmavaks sündmuseks, mis toimub Jõhvis ja Tallinnas.
Festival toob kokku eri vanuses, taustaga ja kogemusega inimesed mitmekesise programmi kaudu: Showcase Edition, Battle Edition, Vogue Ball’id, Laboratooriumid ja Konverentsid. Selle missiooniks on luua vaba ja kaasav keskkond, kus igaüks saab julgelt ennast väljendada ning ületada piire, mis on seotud identiteedi, kultuuri või geograafiaga.
J-Fest on koht, kus kohtuvad tõusvad tantsijad, loovad noored ja rahvusvahelised artistid - eesmärgiga jagada kogemusi, katsetada ja üksteist inspireerida. Vabaduse, enesejõustamise ja ligipääsetavuse väärtustest lähtuv festival mängib olulist rolli noorte hääle võimendamisel, piirkondliku arengu toetamisel ning sildade loomisel kohalike ja globaalsete tantsukogukondade vahel.
