The Dayton Chapter of The Gospel Music Workshop of America, Inc. features black gospel music. The international musical organization was founded in 1967 by the Rev. James Cleveland. GMWA’s purpose is to promote African-American gospel music through academics, workshops, performances, and new artist development.
Tickets are $10 per person and may be purchased online at https://reidcenter.org/tickets.
The Dayton Chapter was formed in March of 1972 under the leadership of the late Reverend Isaac Douglas and the late Charles Vaughn. At its inception, the chapter was aligned with the GMWA-Cincinnati Chapter under the direction of the late Dr. Charles Fold.
Today, the Dayton Chapter celebrates its 50th year of existence providing services to local churches seeking musicians; maintaining affiliation with the GMWA national organization; providing workshops & seminars for up-and-coming church choir conductors, soloists and instrumentalists; providing college credit courses and celebrating gospel music through concerts and other worship performance opportunities. The chapter has been labeled a “model chapter” because of its commitment to sharing and spreading the gospel music genre nationwide. The Dayton Chapter has been fortunate to have worked with a number of renowned, award-winning gospel artists over the years. These include Dorinda Clark-Cole, Keith Pringle, Pastor Marvin Sapp, Kirk Franklin, Dr. Charles Fold and our beloved national founder, Rev. James Cleveland.
Come join us. All are welcome!

Accessibility: We are honored to be caring for such a special facility, but older buildings come with challenges. It is our intention to be open and accessible to all community members. The south entrance (along North A Street) has an accessible ramp to the door. Once inside, there is a stairway of eight steps to the main level. On the left is a handrail, and on the right is a lift chair. The restroom on the main level is a private, single-person restroom, but is not wheelchair accessible. Until we can make permanent accessibility updates to our facility, we encourage those needing additional accommodations to reach out to our volunteer Events Manager, Lynn Knight at [email protected] or call 765-966-7618. We are eager to welcome you and will do everything we can to meet your accessibility needs.
