The Sarasota Jazz Club presents Gordon Godwin's Big Phat Band in Holley Hall at Sarasota OrchestraAbout this Event
Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band, or simply The Big Phat Band, is an 18-piece jazz orchestra led by Gordon Goodwin that combines the big band swing of the 1930s and 1940s with contemporary music such as funk and jazz fusion. Since its origin, the Big Phat Band has received several Grammy Awards and many Grammy nominations. Its first album, Swingin' for the Fences, was the first recording released on DVD-Audio and the first DVD-Audio to be nominated for two Grammy Awards.

Ticket Informtation
All seats are reserved on the main floor level. Students will be seated in the balcony.
Jazz Club Members will receive a 10% discount.
There are to two price point levels:
- $75 - Sponsor Seats in first two rows. These tickets help to support the free student tickets
- $50 - All Other Reserved Seats
Minor seat adjustments may be made by the event organizer to optimize available seats.
Gordon Godwin Co-sponsoring Student Program
This concert is the finale of a day long series of activies focuing on youth musicians and high school jazz bands. Starting in the morning, up to eight area high school bands will be performing before judges who will provide critical feedback and coaching. In the afternoon members of the Big Phat Band will provide masterclass supports to the students grouped by their instuments i.e. trumpets, other horns, reed instruments, purcussion, etc.
The students will end their day by attending the Big Phat Band evening concert free of charge. We thank Gordon Godwin and the Band for their generous support and participation with our young musicians.
