Come ye Christmas orphans and be merry, or just sit in a corner and read a book, this is a day for being in good company however that looks for you. Many of us are away from family this year, or would prefer not to be with them - whatever your story, you are welcome. Timing is just a guideline. Here's the rough idea:
- If you would like to participate in some wholesome, sustainable gift giving, bring a secondhand/used book along that you loved reading and put it in the basket. You can then take something fresh out! Book giving is an Icelandic Christmas Eve tradition :)
Alternatively you could bring produce, homemade baking, tinctures, kombucha etc to swap instead. Yay summer abundance <3
- I will make some tasty food to share for around 6pm. I have no clue though if there'll be five or fifty of you throughout the day, so please bring along a plate of whatever you'd like to see on the table. If you feel like a barbecue bring one along ;) (Note: It's a plant-based community. No need to stress if you've used some honey or eggs, we can label it)
We will have some home brewed oat stout and (low percentage) elderflower champagne to try, it's small batch (we're very minimal drinkers) so bring anything extra you'd like to drink if you feel like emphasising the merry part!
- There'll be fun stuff for our tamariki (bring their togs/swimmers/ new bikes etc, it's a free range environment)
There's a stream and a lake close by on the property too
- It would be nice to have some crafts going on, I'll update this in a bit with what we feel we can manage
- The dream is to get some early-late evening time around the fire toasting (vege) marshmallows and damper, with music and story and song
Honestly just bring whatever you need to feel comfortable, the emphasis is on COMPANY.
