A történet:
Will Hunting még csak húsz éves, de már kilóg a kemény dél-bostoni munkásnegyed környezetéből. Barátaihoz hasonlóan gürcöl, amikor éppen nem a helyi bárban lóg vagy nem keveredik összetűzésbe a törvénnyel. Sohasem járt egyetemre, legfeljebb gondnokként felmosni a padlót. Mégis homályos történelmi utalásokat idéz fel fényképszerű emlékezetéből és szinte azonnal old meg Nobel-díjas professzorokat is zavarba ejtő matekpéldákat. Az egyetlen dolog, amire ez a bámulatosan okos és lehetetlenül dühös fiatalember nem képes, hogy újabb kocsmai verekedése után kidumálja magát a várható börtönbüntetés alól. Egyetlen reménye Sean McGuire, az egyetemi professzorból lett pszichológus, aki csodálja a fiú érzelmi küszködéseit és megérti, milyen az, amikor az ember élete állandó küzdelem.
A film forgatókönyvéért Matt Damon és Ben Affleck Oscar-díjat kapott.

The December film club closes the year with a classic American drama: we’ll be screening Good Will Hunting, followed by a conversation about the film with clinical and pastoral psychologists Isti Madarász and Dr. Emőke Tapolyai.

Story:
Will Hunting is only twenty years old, yet he already stands out from the tough working-class neighborhood of South Boston. Like his friends, he toils away at labor jobs when he’s not hanging out at the local bar or getting into trouble with the law. He’s never attended college—he’s only been on campus as a janitor mopping the floors. Even so, he recalls obscure historical references with photographic memory and solves math problems that would puzzle Nobel Prize–winning professors.
The one thing this brilliantly intelligent yet impossibly angry young man can’t do is talk his way out of the prison sentence he’s facing after yet another bar fight. His only hope is Sean McGuire, the former university professor turned psychologist, who recognizes the boy’s emotional struggles and understands what it’s like when life is a constant battle.
The screenplay for the film earned Matt Damon and Ben Affleck an Academy Award.
