Sonoro (the chamber choir of the San Antonio Choral Society) presents Christoph Demantius’s St. John Passion and the Prophecy of Isaiah. Written in 1631, Bohemian-German composer Demantius powerfully pairs St. John’s passion narrative with the prophet Isaiah’s depiction of the suffering servant. Hailed as one of the most significant passion settings of the late Renaissance, this work, for six voices, represents the last in the development of the German motet passion, preceding the “oratorio passion” of the later Baroque which culminated with J.S. Bach. This concert is part of St. John's First Friday Music Series. First Friday concerts are free and open to the public, followed by a luncheon with a suggested $5 donation. Free parking is available on site.
