A ‘Gong Bath’ is the playing of gongs by a sound healer in the surrounding space, but other instruments may also be used. During this session, you are encouraged to close your eyes, relax and let the sound ‘wash’ over you. You can sit or lie down as you please. People attending ‘gong baths’ report•Relief to aches and pains
•Improved Health and Wellbeing
•Too relaxed to want to go back to work
•Falling asleep in the session
•A good night’s sleep following the session.
The gong baths that Phil runs normally use 4 - 6 gongs. One will be a ‘Planet’ gong aligned with the Ruling Planet for the Star sign of that month. Another will be a ‘symphonic’ gong (or tam-tam) which brings in a whole range of frequencies, tunings and tones that can help with relaxation and healing. The other gongs are then based on intuition and can be based on things like the 4 elements of water, fire, earth and air, Solstices and Equinoxes or other spiritual calendar events or just on a whim. Phil also use singing bowls, shakers, wind chimes and other small percussion instruments during the gong bath.
The gong baths follow a pattern – settling down and breathing, a short introduction on singing bowls etc, then round each of the six gongs in turn followed by playing of multiple gongs, with the energy rising to a crescendo. A short shamanic section then follows, with everything calming down before a single quiet stroke on a gong signals the end of the playing and a short quiet period or Shunyata allows the healing to take place, much like we spend a short period reflecting on the content of a film, play or concert when it’s finished.
Phil recommends drinking plenty of water afterwards to flush out any toxins your body has released during the session.
Sound Therapy is a complimentary therapy and should not be used as a substitute for seeking proper medical advice and attention. I do not claim to cure any forms of physical or mental illness but offer a therapy which can relax and de-stress most people which in itself offers benefits for self care and wellbeing. Phil however, encourages feedback on any improvements so evidence can be compiled and documented to further strengthen the case for sound therapy.
Contraindications – not suitable for people with implants such as pacemakers or other electronic devices or implants, ladies in the first trimester of pregnancy, those suffering from serious heart conditions, acute or serious mental health problems or those who may suffer from sound induced epilepsy
