About this Event

With the arrival of summer with bring our sound healing into nature.

Highgate Wood is a 28 hectare area of ancient woodland in North London, lying between East Finchley, Highgate and Muswell Hill. It was originally part of the ancient Forest of Middlesex which covered much of London, Hertfordshire and Essex .

Join me for a deep relaxation in nature, where the sound of the gong merges with nature and its ihabitant.

One of the significant features of the gong is the interactive nature of the sounds it produces, creating a non-linear pattern and allowing for a multidimensional experience. The entire body vibrates and changes as specific frequencies stimulate the cells of your body, having direct effects on the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects of being.

What are gong baths?

Gong baths are a type of inactive meditation, where you “bathe” in the healing vibrations of sound.

Using sound as a form of healing dates back to ancient cultures. Records of using gongs have surfaced from as early as ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman times.

“Gongs have been used as shamanic healing tools, celebratory instruments, and a method of communication for thousands of years. Evidence suggests that gong making was known as early as 4,000 B.C. and ancient alchemy sources put the gong as far back as 16,000 B.C.”

A gong bath, or gong meditation, is a form of sound healing designed to offer:

- relaxation

- emotional release

- pain relief

Gong bath sessions take place either individually or in a group and generally last between 10 to 45 minutes.

During a gong bath, participants typically lie down and get comfortable with blankets and pillows. (Bring your own blanket and pillows if you wish)

A facilitator then hits the gong, a disc-shaped percussion instrument, using a mallet.

Participants are invited to passively soak up the benefits of the sound.

What are the benefits of gong baths?

Gong baths, like all types of sound therapy, allow your brain to relax into an alpha-dominant or theta-dominant brainwave state.

In this state, your brain has time to download what’s been happening in your day. It allows you to process thoughts and emotions.

The result is that you’ll feel calmer, happier, and less anxious after a session.

A 2017 study found that music therapy may reduce symptoms of depression and promote overall mood.

A 2013 study linked music to health benefits, including immune function and stress reduction.

Sound baths can help with:

- stress

- fatigue

- depression

- Emotional healing/release
