What Is Plogging?

Plogging is a clever fusion of the words "jogging" and the Swedish expression "plocka upp," which translates to "pick up." This innovative fitness practice revolves around a straightforward concept: while you're out for a jog, you simultaneously collect any litter or trash you encounter along your route. Plogging can markedly improve the training value of a run by adding squats and lunges, and if you add some speed to your jog, it becomes fantastic interval training with a social mission!

Plogging originated in Sweden in 2016 following increased concern about plastic pollution. 300 million tons of plastic are created annually, and eight million tons enter our oceans globally. Your participation in our plogging event will help mitigate the plastic that collects on San Francisco's streets and beaches every day.

Listen to Red Bull's to hear the creator of plogging and runner Erik Ahlström explore the connection between running and nature.

About Protect Our Winters

As a legacy ski brand with a 70-year history in the industry, Goldwin is a proud member of Protect Our Winters, Japan. POW was founded in 2007, when pro snowboarder Jeremy Jones saw that more and more resorts he’d always counted on for good riding were closed due to lack of snow. Something was clearly going on, and he felt the need to act. But he couldn’t find any organizations focused on mobilizing the snowsports community on climate—there was a gap between the impacts that climate change was already having on our great escapes and organized action to address it.

So Jeremy founded Protect Our Winters.

Solving the climate crisis is possible. Based on estimates in the 2018 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report, we have just over a decade to drastically curb our emissions to avoid the worst impacts of the climate crisis. Staying at or below 1.5˚C means we have to slash our greenhouse gas emissions 45 percent below 2010 levels by 2030 and reach net zero emissions by 2050. We know it sounds like a massive task. But we believe that solving the climate crisis is not only possible but within our reach.

About , the film

Professional snowboarder and mountaineer @jeremyjones7046 has an intimate relationship with the outdoors. It’s his escape, his identity, and his legacy. But over the course of his 45 years in the mountains, he’s seen things change: more extreme weather, fewer snow days, and economic strain on mountain towns.

Motivated by an urge to protect the places he loves, Jeremy sets out on a physical and philosophical journey to find common ground with fellow outdoor people across diverse political backgrounds. He learns their hopes and fears while walking a mile in their shoes on the mountain and in the snow.

With intimacy and emotion set against breathtaking backdrops, Purple Mountains navigates America’s divide with a refreshing perspective: even though we may disagree about climate policy, our shared values can unite us.

For more on Goldwin's latest sustainability initiatives;

Spiber Brewed Protein ™️ - Most sports apparel is made from synthetic molecular materials (polyester, nylon, etc.) manufactured from petroleum, and the impact of the final product on the natural environment due to microplastic emissions has recently become a pressing environmental issue. As a countermeasure to problems such as these, and in light of concerns about the depletion of petroleum, it is increasingly important that society works to switch to sustainable resources.

To address these global-scale environmental issues, GOLDWIN began researching “structural protein materials” in collaboration with Spiber in 2015 and, in the fall of 2015, announced a prototype outdoor jacket made of this kind of material. In 2019, The North Face released T-shirts and outdoor jackets exclusively in Japan using Brewed Protein™ fiber, a structural protein material newly developed by Spiber in response to performance challenges and product quality requirements. Since then, a variety of apparel products, such as knitwear and fleece, have also been launched by GOLDWIN-managed brands.
