About this Event

Join the Greater Manchester Homelessness Action Network and the GM Jokers for an interactive and action-focused workshop reviewing the Greater Manchester Homelessness Prevention Strategy (GMHPS) which was co-produced alongside GMCA in 2021.

The GMHPS 2021 – 2026 was established to provide a clear path for joint action to prevent homelessness across Greater Manchester. With the strategy over its halfway point, we are inviting key decision makers, policymakers, and those with lived experience of homelessness to come together and review what progress has been made and what more needs to be done. This will be facilitated by GM Jokers as the first in a series of three interactive legislative theatre workshops.

The first session will act as a reinvigorating refresher on the context and content of the strategy, using on one of the core missions of the GMHPS as a jumping off point:-

Everyone leaves our places of care with a safe place to go’.

This session is the opportunity for you to be involved in the collective assessment of how we’re doing and, most importantly, influence future activity.

Across the system, it is our duty to ensure that homelessness in Greater Manchester is prevented where possible. It's our mission to see that when it does occur, it is a rare, brief, and non-recurrent experience. This is your chance to answer two key questions

  1. Where are we now as a system?
  2. How do we get closer to achieving our missions?

We encourage you to attend if you have an interest or work at a strategic level with people experiencing homelessness and also but not exclusive to following areas:

  • Healthcare
  • Childrens and adults’ social care
  • Asylum
  • Armed forces
  • Criminal justice and probation

If you have any questions, please contact James Walker (Principal – Homelessness and Rough Sleeping, GMCA) [email protected]

Who are the GM Jokers?

We are a team of creatives practicing Legislative Theatre in Greater Manchester. This is not your ordinary theatre; this is a powerful tool for social and political change, for democratic transformation, and community empowerment.

Currently we stand as a group of nine individuals who have experienced systemic trauma in one way or another, whether due to our gender, race, religion, our past, or our present. The system and its policies have impacted us, and this is what ignited our passion for Legislative Theatre.

We were involved in co-producing many of the ideas and proposals that formed the GM Homelessness Prevention Strategy in 2020-21, so we are glad to be part of this effort to reenergise the sector and the GMHAN community around the strategy.
