Glory of This released two albums on Indianola Records: "Adoration" in 2004 and "The Lover, The Liar, The Ruse" in 2006. The former, is turning 20 years old this year – and we want to celebrate.
To commemorate this milestone, a final show will be held at The Handlebar in Pensacola, Florida on July 20, 2024. The event, titled "20 Years Un-Scene", isn't just a celebration of Glory of This; it's a testament to the power of music, shared experience, and enduring memory.
From its inception, Glory of This has been more than just a band. We tried to represent a movement, a shift in the cultural landscape that brought people together, uniting them under the banner of shared admiration for a post-hardcore sound. The albums we created were more than just collections of songs; they were anthologies of emotion and experience, encapsulating the spirit of the music we loved. Each track, each show experience, each lyric, was a piece of a larger narrative that painted a vivid image of the world we lived in.
The band's journey was not without its trials. Over the course of 4 years the band was together, we faced the harsh realities of poor touring life, living on $5/day per diems, and struggling to make it from one city to the next. It was the support of great tour companions and ultimately our home-town crowds that made the band endure and find the motivation to keep going. That music scene gave life and meaning to so many of us – whether on the stage or in the crowd. We want to relive that moment with you.
After Glory of This disbanded in late 2007, the most significant of trials would begin, the most poignant of which was the loss of band members. These losses were deeply felt, not just by the band but by the entire music community in which they inspired and influenced. Jose “Chino” Morales, an energetic and entertaining soul, left us on July 16, 2013. Less than two years later, we lost another friend in Cory Seals on April 24, 2015. Cory was a connector with an infectious smile who left his legacy on many records, with many bands, and asking others to remember to cherish their own lives. Each loss serves as a reminder of the transient nature of life, adding another layer to the upcoming performance – to pay tribute to our friends. The sorrow of loss, intertwined with the beauty of music and camaraderie will surely make this evening a night to remember.
With the support of Cory and Chino’s families, we are doing one last event, and we have incredible people helping make it happen. Original members performing will be James Harrah (vocals), Matt Rogers (drums for Adoration), and Dave Miller (drums for L,L,R). To bring this to life, Glory of This will have Blake Jones (guitar), Evan Ranallo (guitar), and Nicholas Fury (bass). We are incredibly fortunate to have such amazing musicians helping bring this event together for all of us. There will be other bands and guests announced later. Special thanks to Matt Shelton and John Giddens at Indianola Records, Shauncey Fury for the artwork and support, Chris Wilkes Evilash at The Gumshoe Presents for coordinating and getting the event stood up, and to The Handlebar for allowing us to get rowdy one last time.
Now, as we enter the 20-year mark, there's a sense of pride and accomplishment. Glory of This’ legacy is not measured in album sales or chart positions, but in the comments and stories shared by the hearts and minds they've touched.
But beyond the pride and accomplishment, there is also a sense of anticipation. The upcoming event at The Handlebar is a chance to reunite, to reminisce, and to celebrate. It's an opportunity to reconnect with old friends and fans, to share stories of the past, and to create new memories. The theme, "20 Years Un-Scene", embodies this spirit perfectly. It's not just about looking back, but also about looking forward, about harnessing the power of the past to inspire the future.
So, as we prepare for this grand celebration, let's remember the journey of Glory of This. Let's revisit the music, the stories, the friendships, and the memories. Let's commemorate the lives of the band members we've lost, cherishing their contributions to the band's legacy.
