The "World Order" and US National Security in Transition
The "World Order" that has defined American "National Security" since the years after WWII is now in transition. What does this mean for the US and the rest of the world? US National Security was previously defined as containing the spread of Communism, encouraging democracy, creating a transnational economic system based on the dollar, and promoting economic growth and stability for countries and our multinational corporations.
How will "National Security" be determined in the future? What policies will result from this transition as it relates to US allies and adversaries? Some would use the term "pivot." Others view it more ominously as the end of the post-World War II era and a new one that appears more transactional, centered in national self-interest at the expense of alliances, and less interested in shared responsibilities and democratic values.
